Built in the early 1900's, the refurbished Post Hospital has many original features including high tin ceilings, doors with original room names and numbers and hardwood floors throughout. In the early '90's, a large porch extension was added providing ideal views of Spring Cove and lovely outdoor seating and dinning.
The Post Hospital has three floors each with a full bath. There are 8 bedrooms total. The third floor master bedroom has sweeping views of Spring Cove and Whitehead passage. The house has an abundance of space including large “ward” room with a pool table. The house lends itself to large groups and comes with a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of large cooking pots, plates and cutlery, 2 fridges/freezers and a gas grill. The house also has a dinning room, a front sitting room and a large laundry area with washer and dryer. While renting, you'll be supplied with basic paper goods, cleaning supplies, all linens and beach towels. The house has easy access to Government dock and its beach. A mooring is available in the cove for an additional fee.
Cushing's Island is a small privately owned island in Casco Bay with extensive carriage roads and walking paths through a picturesque landscape. In the mid 1880’s landscape designer Frederick Law Olmstead and architect John Calvin Stephens, were commissioned to create this summer colony. Trails along the rocky shore and access to the old forts are among the many gems on the island. With no cars, bikes, stores or restaurants, it is a quiet place with a common appreciation for its natural surroundings. Several beaches provide access to water sports including sea kayaking, swimming and stand-up paddle boarding. For those not inclined towards the cold Maine water, beach combing for sea glass and climbing along the rocky coast or visiting our stone gazebos are all ways to enjoy the island.
